She sometimes ends up paying for her actions through acts of karma, such as when she accidentally loses her top while trying to sabotage Harold during a jet ski race. Heather does not always get away with her dirty deeds, however. Late in the competition, Heather becomes hated by all the other contestants on the show because of her unscrupulous ways and manipulative behavior, so much so that all of them want to vote her out of the game-but Heather manages to dodge yet another bullet when, through an act of chicanery to keep the conflict going, show host Chris Maclean tricks the eliminated contestants into voting off Leshawna instead. Often during the first season, Heather also frequently skates through the competition by doing little to nothing to help her teammates or contribute to their wins, but instead bossing them around and forcing them to do her dirty work for her. She achieves this, for example, by bribing some of her fellow Gophers into voting Justin off the show, and she later gets Trent eliminated by turning him and Gwen against each other by kissing Trent in front of Gwen, then getting him voted off the show by the other campers while avoiding elimination herself due to winning immunity. Heather makes her way through the show, winning challenges and thus often gaining immunity from elimination from the game, through cheating, sabotage, manipulation and deceit. Heather also harbors a jealous streak toward Gwen, whom she personally regards as a threat to her in the game and therefore targets for retribution in various ways, including stealing and publicly reading Gwen's diary during a talent competiton (exposing Gwen's crush on Trent in the process) and later plotting to break up Gwen and Trent through nefarious means. She also frequently walks around with her fists clenched, as if she is ready for a fight, and she has been known to get physically aggressive with some of the other players, even going so far as to assault Owen and Tyler more than once on several occasions. She is stuck-up and snobby and is often mean-spirited, bossy and bitchy to teammates and opponents alike, and she does not hesitate to use and take advantage of other campers for personal gain (including pretending to befriend those she chooses, such as Lindsay and Beth, then dumping them when they serve no further purpose to her). Although she is quite pretty and she fancies herself as popular, Heather also posesses a very unpleasant personality. She comes from a well-to-do background as seen in her audition tape for the show, she emerges from pampering herself in the shower in a fancy bathroom while discussing why she wants to be a contestant on TDI.

Heather's ethnicity is Asian (as confirmed by former series director and character designer Todd Kaufmann, although she is not given a specific Asian ethnicity), making her one of the few TDI characters whose ethnic background is known.
She auditioned for the show in hopes of using it as a training ground for her long-term goal, in her words, "of ruling Europe", and she becomes determined to win the competition by any means necessary. She was also a member of the Screaming Gaffers team on Total Drama Action, the second season. She started out as a member of the Screaming Gophers team in the first season, and she claimed leadership of the team during that season. Heather is a member of Team Amazon on Total Drama World Tour, the third season of TDI.
